Pranayama refers to a set of breathing techniques, which are designed for the yogi to control its breath. Controlling the breath in order to control the fluctuations of the mind and the flow of prana, life energy.
Kriyas are cleansing techniques. In the teacher training you will be presented with an array of kriyas, their correct application, benefits and contraindications. Under the guidance of our teachers you will practice a number of the most commonly practiced kriyas yourself.
Other than the practice of asanas and pranayama, which should be considered as a meditation in itself, you will practice and learn several meditation techniques. Having experienced different approaches you will be able to give a guided meditation after the conclusion of the training.
Anatomy & Adjustment
As everybody has a different physical body and many people are suffering from some injury or condition (small, big, acute or chronic), it is important to know the anatomy of the physical body and adjustments in all of the asanas. Correct alignment and specific adjustments, using props, are the core of the program and after the training you will be able to recognize students needs, give them proper adjustments, and you will be able to prescribe personalized yoga practices.
You will learn all about the ancient scriptures, such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, that form the basis of yoga today. During the classes the concepts and paradigms are presented and critically questioned and tested against contemporary norms and values.
Chanting and singing devotional songs is a way of paying gratitude to our ancestors and teachers. Other than that, singing mantras opens the heart and one feels present and alive. At the start of the training you will learn a number of mantras and you will practice them throughout the duration of the course.
Teaching enhances more than guiding people from asana to asana, or explaining the correct pranayama technique. It is about being authentic, inspiring, feeling what is needed in a particular moment, and being sensitive to the students needs and abilities. Halfway through the training you will start teaching your fellow students. In this way you can build up experience and confidence in a safe environment, where you are allowed to make mistakes. Our teachers and your fellow students will give you constructive feedback which will help you improve you teaching skills rapidly. By the end of the training, as part of the examination, you will teach one full class which is open for everyone to attend.
